Euromoney Names Standard Bank as Malawi’s Best Bank

Lilongwe, July 24, 2024 – The world’s leading capital markets and financial thinktank, Euromoney, has named Standard Bank Plc—listed on the Malawi Stock Exchange—as Malawi’s Best Bank in its 2024 Awards for Excellence.

For over 30 years, the Euromoney’s Excellence Awards have been the most sought after and prestigious awards by banks globally, with entries from over one hundred countries and 600 Banks each year.

Reacting to the award, Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer, Phillip Madinga said the prestigious award highlights the Bank’s commitment to driving Malawi’s economic growth.

“As Standard Bank, we are thrilled to be awarded Malawi’s Best Bank accolade because it is a testament of the determination that we have in serving our customers through numerous products and services that are best tailored to suit their financial needs,” Madinga said.

He added that Standard Bank has been contributing to the development of the country through various initiatives under its corporate social responsibility programs that have helped fill gaps in areas of need in sectors such as such as education, health, and agriculture.

Madinga stated that the accolade therefore serves as a motivation for the Bank to further enhance its efforts in the economic development of the country.

“This award is an encouragement to us as Standard Bank to even do better, especially as we commemorate the year 2024 as our 55th year of serving Malawians.

“We are proud to be part of the drivers of Malawi’s growth and will continue to serve and engage with Malawians through programs such as Phuka Incubator, MUST endowment Fund, Growth conversation, Be More Race just to mention a few,” he said.

The Standard Bank Group globally has achieved a clean sweep of 16 accolades, including Africa’s Best Bank, at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2024. The Bank has also been recognized as Africa’s best-performing Bank in The Banker’s Top 1000 Banks 2024 rankings.
