Be More Race 2026

Standard Bank's flagship wellness event, the Be More Race, recorded its highest-ever turnout on Saturday, 20 June 2026, with 4,075 participants gathering at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. The milestone reflects the growing momentum behind fitness, wellness and community-driven experiences across Malawi. Hosted under the theme “Keep Growing”, this year’s edition brought together runners, families, fitness enthusiasts and corporate teams from across the country. Participants competed in three race categories — 21km, 10km and 5km — while enjoying a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere throughout the day.

Outstanding Performances on the Track

The 21-kilometre race delivered exceptional performances across both the men’s and women’s categories, showcasing endurance, discipline and competitive spirit.

In the men’s category, Kefasi Kasiteni of Cobbe Barracks claimed victory after completing the race in under one hour and five minutes, earning the K2.5 million top prize. His performance reflected a combination of faith, discipline and consistent preparation.

In the women’s category, Fostina Mbemba of Moyale Barracks secured her second Be More Race title, finishing in under one hour and nineteen minutes to also take home K2.5 million. Her win underscored the impact of sustained training and commitment to excellence.

A Growing Movement for Wellness

The record participation highlights the strong and growing connection Malawians have with health and wellness initiatives.

Standard Bank Chief Executive Phillip Madinga noted that the increasing turnout reflects the positive reception the event continues to receive:

“This year’s response exceeded our expectations. The increasing number of participants demonstrates the growing interest in health and wellness and reinforces the importance of creating platforms that encourage active lifestyles and bring communities together.”

The “Keep Growing” theme speaks to Standard Bank’s broader commitment to supporting progress in all aspects of life — from personal wellbeing to financial empowerment. This commitment is also reflected in the Bank’s continued investment in innovative solutions that make banking more accessible and convenient, including digital onboarding, 247 Mobile, 247 Online and 247 Digital platforms.

In addition, Kwacha Point, the Bank’s agency banking service, continues to extend access to essential banking services such as deposits and withdrawals to communities beyond traditional branch networks.

A Platform for Community and Connection

The Be More Race goes beyond competition to create a holistic experience for participants and spectators alike. This year’s event featured:

  • Family-friendly activities
  • Children’s play zones
  • Partner exhibitions
  • Live entertainment

Through Standard Bank’s partnership with Beyond Marketing, under the Joy of Arts programme, attendees enjoyed performances from leading local artists including Tuno, Kell Kay, Teddy Makadi, Saint, Charisma, Kineo Madness and Fada Moti, alongside performances by Standard Bank staff talent, featuring Zeze Kingston.

Looking Ahead

Guest of Honour Jim Kalua, Chairperson of the Malawi National Council of Sports, commended Standard Bank for its continued contribution to promoting health and wellness. He encouraged the expansion of the Be More Race to additional cities, creating opportunities for more Malawians to participate.

Since its launch in 2017, the Be More Race has evolved into one of Malawi’s most anticipated sporting events. This year’s record turnout marks an important milestone in its journey — and reinforces Standard Bank’s role in championing healthier, more connected communities.

As the movement continues to grow, the Be More Race remains a powerful platform for inspiring individuals and communities to stay active, pursue progress and, ultimately, keep growing.
