The Be More Race, a renowned half-marathon and wellness event by Standard Bank Plc will return this year after a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2022 race will throw spotlight on the country’s recovery efforts, while raising proceeds for supporting girls secondary school education in Lilongwe.

Head of Marketing Nyambura Chege said the 2022 race promises to rekindle the passions of all marathon and fitness enthusiasts to rally behind in efforts to bring about recovery in both respects of the economy and people’s wellness.

“As a bank, we are taking the lead in bringing together all participants in their respective areas of endeavor to contribute to the country’s recovery and growth efforts. The last two years have been exceptionally difficult for everyone due to Covid-19, but our resolve is stronger and transcends the setback. The Be More Race gives us the platform to recharge our efforts as partners for growth,” she said.

She said the race will create a platform to celebrate the resilience of a nation in withstanding socio-economic effects of Covid-19 pandemic, recent weather-related natural disasters and the space to reboot for wellness in general.

“After running it for three years, Be More Race has become a multi-disciplinary event that attracts different people from a cross section of fields. Apart from athletes, the race is a uniting passion point for various role players in health, sport, hospitality and tourism, public and private sector. The 2022 Be More Race underscores that we are stronger when we work together, and that through our partnerships, our dreams and aspirations are possible and Can Be,” said Chege.

The Head of Marketing said through sponsorship of the race, Standard Bank reaffirms commitment to partner customers in the provision of tailored financial services geared towards the recovery effort.

This year’s race takes place in Lilongwe in June and will have a city race Blantyre in May ahead of the main June heat.

She said proceeds from this year’s race will be go towards the needs of secondary schools in Lilongwe which Standard Bank is supporting.

“This is in keeping with the Be More Race tradition of racing for a cause. Standard Bank remains very committed to contributing to the education sector, and this year we are focusing on secondary school girls in Lilongwe. Previously, we have empowered girls in schools nationwide,” said Chege.

Be More Race has three main categories, namely the 5km Family race, the 1OKm corporate race and the 25 km half marathon. Previous races have been attended by international athletes from Kenya, and the race officially gained its place on the international race calendar in 2019.
